Last Thursday night, my wife and I wanted to eat somewhere convenient to our home, and we wanted a very good meal. We chose Fox Valley Restaurant in Maylene because it’s close to our home, and it is a very good place to get a very good meal.
We started our meal with Fox Valley’s dinner rolls, which were provided just after we were seated. After a long day at work and a long commute home, we were glad to enjoy a couple of buttered rolls as we waited for our food. We continued our feast with a dozen fried blue crab claws and house salads. The claws were good (not as awesome as, say, crab legs would have been, though)
, and the house salads were….well, house salads.
For her entree, my wife ordered the chargrilled New York strip steak, which was topped with sauteed mushrooms and merlot butter. The steak was fantastic – especially since we didn’t have to chargrill it.
For my entree, I ordered the crab cakes, which are Fox Valley’s specialty. The Fox Valley crab cakes are similar to salmon croquettes, and they are served with a brown garlic butter, which is spectacular.
The only negative experience we had on Thursday night was that the meal lasted a little too long. There didn’t seem to be a large crowd, so maybe the restaurant was short-handed. Our server kept our water glasses filled and kept the dinner rolls coming, but there was a noticeable lag between our salads and our entrees.
